About Tonfanau Quarry
Located north of Tywyn, the quarry was established in 1892 by local miners, including William Williams Jones, as a granite quarry. It operated for over 100 years, producing roadstone from coarse dolerite and gabbro until its closure in 1998. It famously utilized German prisoners of war for labor during World War I.
